The exhibition spaces offer visitors the chance to learn about Egypt, immersing themselves in an incredible experience. Stepping inside the exhibition, Egypt comes to life before the visitor’s eyes: the feeling of inching through narrow tunnels built thousands of years ago, of finding one’s way in the dark, of camping out inside tombs and battling on with sand in one’s eyes, in suffocating temperatures, all makes Belzoni’s Egypt a realistic adventure for visitors.
The ambient reconstructions, digital technology and special effects make the exhibition an exciting experience for visitors of all ages, while the precious exhibits on show make it truly outstanding. The exhibition also includes items personally brought back by Belzoni and by Drovetti, Salt and Ricci - some of those who accompanied him on several expeditions – along with prestigious antiquities on loan from Italian and international museums, some on show for the first time ever.
The exhibition itinerary centres around Belzoni’s three expeditions to Egypt, which visitors can experience first-hand thanks to a combination of advanced immersive technologies with full multimedia experiences. The full-scale reproductions of monuments and historical artefacts provide a unique visual and emotional impact, while strategically positioned touchscreen monitors offer fascinating insight into the history and culture of ancient Egypt. Visitors are also accompanied by a series of considerations and images taken from Belzoni’s Narrative: original illustrated plates hand-drawn by the Padua-born explorer, preserved in pristine condition, that narrate episodes and details worthy of any adventure movie. An epic, intrepid life which – much later - inspired director George Lucas to create the character of Indiana Jones for the film Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).
